BL vs Hammond? Hmmm....Ok. Not sure what talent both teams bolster to support that, other than some transfers here and there. What about PG? Always thought they were a contender?

The 8-man schedules will have a few changes. Today Curtis Baptist announced they would not field a varsity team in 2017.

That's Intriguing. It appears in smaller schools that success in football does not lead to increased interest in the school or in football, which is disheartening.

Curtis Baptist just 3 years ago played for a state championship in single A and now no team.

Holly Hill won the state championship that year and has dropped to 8 man since.

Calhoun won the AA state championship 2 seasons ago and is now petitioning for 8 man.

With both Curtis Baptist and Charleston Collegiate not fielding varsity teams in 2017 the league office is working on adjusting the 8-man schedules. The latest news I heard was that Calhoun would be playing 8-Man

I've heard the same. Just nothing official yet. Sucks for the teams that had Calhoun on 11 man schedules this year...since it is July 12. I'm assuming there is no penalty for dropping in the middle of a cycle either to deter it in the future. Calhoun wins and the teams they were supposed to play this year are the ones that lose.

Nothing is official yet,but I can promise you Calhoun would like nothing better than to play 11 man football. This is a first for Calhoun, but when you are to the point of trying to scrape up 14 kids that want to play football, its either play 8 man,or play 11 man and probably only make it 3 games into schedule before forfeits start happening rest of the season. Then nobody wins,I do hope it works out for everyone involved. Just a side note, there are supposedly 35 JV guys suiting up this fall, just have a real dropoff 2017-2018 . Cheers

I understand Calhoun wanting to play 11 man.....they have a strong tradition there and I get that but that doesn't help the teams they are dropping help pay bills.

I honestly understand both sides. Hilton Head Prep a few years ago, when Wald first took over, played the first 2 seasons with 14-15 players and I think he played this past season at John Paul with about 16 players that included 8th graders. Dorchester won an 11 man title in 91 with 13 players on the roster...the current greenwood coach Jolly, was on the team they beat and is hilarious when telling the story...and Bible Baptist 2 seasons ago played with 14 and did forfeit 1 game.
Those are teams who did it and made it through.....there are examples of the scenario you mentioned...Palmetto 2 years ago in AA would only play certain games and would forfeit the others and then in 8 man, teams would't play Andrew Jackson the past few years on occasion because their numbers were low and didn't want to have injuries from playing AJA who was strong.

I do agree that it's just not a good situation for anyone, Calhoun or their last years opponents. I'm sure they'll be back to 11 man, hopefully sooner rather than later.
