Bible Baptist represents SCISA well in 7-on-7

Postby bbbravo » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:54 pm

Yesterday, Bible Baptist took part in a 7-on-7 scrimmage with some Savannah teams:

GHSA class A state champion Savannah Christian
GISA class AA Bethesda
GHSA class AAAAA Richmond Hill

Bible beat Savannah Christian 1-0, beat Bethesda 4-3, and tied Richmond Hill 3-3.

Of course, 7-on-7 games don't give a true picture of a teams capabilities, since there is no line play, no pressure on the quarterback, no running plays, no tackling, etc. So, these games may not mean anything, but it sure was fun taking it to these bigger schools.

I wasn't able to go to the 7on7 yesterday but my son said it was alot of fun going up against some of the more visible programs in our area. The numbers of guys out for conditioning are way up compared to what they have been in the past with several new guys coming out for the team. I am praying that these new guys will help Coach Mauk along with the seasoned players bring a championship trophy to the Braves case. GO BRAVES!!!!!!!!

In this week's 7-on-7 games, Bible Baptist again took it to their opponents. They defeated Savannah Christian 3 - 1, Bethesda 2 - 1, and Richmond Hill (but their JV this time) 5 - 0. Bible had way too many dropped passes, but the receivers were running their routes well and consistently getting open. Their defensive coverage has improved further.

It is interesting to note that Bible is having this success without having had any Spring practice, as the new coach only arrived in the last week of school. SCISA did let Bible start summer workouts a week early as a result.

Still, Bible will face a tough schedule when real football starts, as six of their opponents won at least nine games last season. (I like to think that all of those teams graduated everybody that mattered last season :) )

Well, you've hit the nail on the head. These 7-on-7 scrimmages are a good way for quarterbacks and receivers to get some practice running their routes, and for the defense to work on coverages, but not much else. Bible clearly has some speed, but when it gets to real football in the fall, the fact remains that games are won on the line. Bible's line has experience, but they are not real big. 11 man is a whole different scenario. One thing for sure, though - it will be a lot of fun as always.
