Preview of Hilton Head Christian out today ... expectations are high and as the defending state champs they are the team to beat in 2A.

Good stuff here. Really glad to see Alex James returned, there were rumors flying around over the summer that he was gonna transfer. Having him back and healthy is going to be huge, great athlete. Excited to see what Gordon Washington is gonna do his last go round, another good athlete but every better kid! These two guys have tremendous speed and when they turn the corner they aren't many players in SCISA that'll track them down!

Unfortunately for us, we got LMA Friday Night in Manning. Not sure how much we're gonna learn about ourselves but if we can outta there without any injuries I think we'll be just fine the rest of the season!

Scheduling note: The first link says we play Pee Dee Academy, that's false, we're playing Spartanburg Christian at home that week.

Good lord, I thought we had some beef, but THA has some 3A, 4A public school level beef. One at 285 and two at 265 among them. I guess the key as with any big guy is how they can move. You can be 300+, but if you can't move that well then it really don't matter.

Brad Meccariello, Hilton Head Christian
Will McCutchen, Hilton Head Christian
J.T. Waters, Palmetto Christian
Ryan Roe, Palmetto Christian
Darrett Drayton, Northwood Academy
Will Lloyd, Northwood Academy
Griffin Creekmore, Calhoun Academy
Teron Daley, Hilton Head Prep
Gordon Washington, Florence Christian

There is clearly more parity in 2A this year. There are eight 2A play-off spots.
The 6 teams above are likely to make the play-offs.

That leaves 2 play-off spots up for grabs...for the other 2A teams.
Who will it be? THA, REL, Kings, TSA, Spartanburg Christian, (Oakbrook)

That's usually not hard to predict in 2A, but I would disagree slightly this go around. If you go by that then THA will not make the playoffs as HHC, HHP, Northwood and PCA would be the four from region 2 that make the playoffs. Despite losing half the team and seemingly 98% of their offense, I think with their size THA will make it in, which leaves the final spot to HHP and Northwood.

In region 1, barring some miraculous turnarounds by King's and REL, I think the four will be pretty easy to choose. TSA, FCS, Calhoun, and probably SCA unless they are pretty bad this year will make it. The only question is in which order it will be. I don't know about King's, but I believe REL will be much improved and may pull it out over SCA, but I don't think they'll challenge the big three that much. But that's why they play the game and we'll see how it goes this year.

Here is my completely unbiased prediction:

TSA is young, but they will surprise a few teams this year. :D

Here's a pet peeve ... going to the SCISA message board on palmettoFOOTBALLtalk during FOOTBALL season and seeing a post about basketball at the top of the page

Now for another pre-season report ...
