We certainly won't surprise anyone in our region. When you've lost just one region game in six years, there's no surprise. We're going to get everyone's best shot every game. I do think this is a team that will certainly improve as the season progresses, and should we get through the battle with Calhoun the region battle should come when we meet FCS.

I do understand what you're saying though. Because we are so young some people are writing us off. The year we lost to Northwood in the championship (08 I believe without looking it up) we lost a TON of skill players (moreso than last year). 2 years later we won state. We have a tough early season schedule with OP and WH, but that's just going to get us ready for region play. Turnovers have been an issue early in the season the past two years, but it has always improved over the season so that's why I'm not too worried with last week's loss in the scrimmage.

Calhoun Academy is young up front but very good at the skills positions. With our schedule I look for us to win at least 7 games and compete for the region.

Thanks for posting that Cavsrgr8t ... I was just about to do that and you beat me to it :D

Interesting note ... there is not a single size or weight that is even close to accurate for Calhoun :?:

And then I figured it out

I pulled out last year's pre-season roster sheet and bingo ... they used all the year old facts and figures for the size of the players ... you can be sure every kid in the article is 10 to 15 pounds heavier and 2 to 3 inches taller. Creekmore is 6 feet.

Robt. E. Lee and Oakbrook - News Mystery Teams? Does anybody know anything about them? I still see Oakbrook on Calhoun's season schedule for Nov. 1 and Oakbrook is selling football fan merchandise on their Facebook page soooo, maybe they are playing most of their games and plan to be on the field at the end of the season...can anyone verify?

REL should be much improved with that new coaching staff and their QB is legit. Don't think they have the depth or size to compete for the region, but they will be a tougher out. As for Oakbrook, on another thread someone said they are going to play a majoroty of their games as an independent and then rejoin the region next year.

It's going to be interesting to see how our offense looks this year. For the first 4 or 5 years under Coach K it was pretty much a misdirection offense. The last few years we have opened it up a bit, but really haven't run any spread.

TSA's starting QB, one of four seniors on the team, is likely out for most of the season. Broken bone in his throwing hand. :( He'll be OK, but not good news for the team.

young guns - Are you sure? Did it happen in practice?

I just looked at Hoge's picture in The Item article this morning and thought ... he looks good ... TSA is going to be tough.

Every boy is absolutely vital to his team - especially in 2A. I suspect Hoge is an athlete who helps on defense also .... but with that said - the pre-season report on TSA made it sound like QB was a postion of depth with Hoge-sr and Stengel-jr vying for the position in a neck and neck battle.

Thinking positive, TSA will overcome this better than you think and Hoge will be back sooner than you think. Glad to hear you report that "he will be OK". Perhaps he can even play another position with a cast.

Here's praying for every boy to have a healthy season and for each team to put it's best players and best effort on the field.

Yep, it happened in practice and my son was there when he came back yesterday and told the team the prognosis. Two broken bones with surgery today to stabilize everything. I don't think the QB position is one of depth at this point, but I'm sure someone will step up to fill that big void. Thanks for the positive thoughts and prayers for all teams/players.

An update on Oakbrook. Yesterday had 17 at Varsity practice. 2 volunteer asst. coaches played college football and are helping the team a lot. There are some kids with size, even though small in numbers. 1 wide receiver is 6'6", and one lineman is 6'4"/275.
Some asked for an update when there was one, so there you have it.
First game for OPS in next Friday, Sept 6 at Holly Hill.
