You can play 11man....just declare for the season. Greenwood Christian started the season with 15, Dorchester with 16. Greenwood is 3-3, not sure what Dorchesters current record is. SCISA says schools below 48 boys can play 8man, doesn't say they have too. There are a few schools that have below 40 boys and are playing 11man currently.

I know that decision is a tough one for a small school because just because you have good numbers out for the team this year, doesn't mean they will be back next year.

do you know if Greenwood or Dorchester have more than 48 boys in grades 9-12? if so, then they have no choice and have to play 11 man, even if only 15 of those boys come out to play.

Greenwood is above that number. Dorchester is in the 30s for boys. Previous head of school was a high school classmate of mine and last realignment they were around 34 or 36 boys. Everything I've heard, they will be around the same number this coming realignment.

if that's so, maybe Dorchester outta drop down to 8-man. They are the only school to win a championship in A, AA, and AAA. they outta go for a complete set and win an 8-man title!

Sounds like we've got some serious gamblers in SCISA lol. A few key injuries on a 15 man roster in 11-man and the season's pretty much over.

For instance if W.W. King had been playing 11-man this year their season would have ended 3 weeks ago. Started year with 16 on roster and now injuries has them down to 10 to finish their 8-man season.

Amen to the quote below:
So, anything’s possible no matter what level you play, regardless of what some others on here think about 8-Man football.

I’d also like to address something else I see on this forum, especially from our fellow SCISA fans (including one post that got deleted). We 8-Man schools are very proud of our programs. I know I’m proud of my school’s program which started in 1971, the first year SCISA organized football, and has won three AA state championships. I’d argue all day that the 1989 and 1990 Patriots are two of the greatest teams ever fielded by SCISA. Not many other SCISA schools can claim that kind of history.

Frankly, I get sick and tired of others’ condescending attitudes toward 8-man. We don’t play 8-man by personal choice but because economic and demographic consequences lead to declining enrollment. If any of you big schools figure out a cure for those systemic issues, please let me know. We’d love to play 11-man again. If you truly love the game, it doesn’t matter how many men are on the field in my opinion.
There are several schools that could play up to 11 man but they would not do as well. There is a pride factor to it and to do the unknown is scary and to play 11 man means you also play some 2a and 3a teams if you move from 8 man to 1a..... lolol I don't think for the most part that would be alot of fun. 8 man is a great option to have for sure and does on occasion produce very talented athletes, but be real there isn't much of a comparison.... just take the 2 all star teams at the end if the season and do the eye test.... it would be murder to play the 8 man kids vs the 11 man

*Tiger1981 You make some good points. If you've got the right 11 or the right 8 you can do great things. If not...well maybe you'll win a few games. I remember when we were an 8-man squad playing A teams, we wondered why the heck we were wasting our time doing it. But we had to play up to their level and it made us a better team for it. And it was fun to play 11 man for the first time in school history since like 1999 and even win a couple.

Just curious though...what school are you with?
