Where do charter schools fit in SC HS sports landscape?

The irony? of charter schools these days is their original intent when they began to pop up in the 90s and early 00's was to offer a small academic focused alt in large urban areas to kids who attended failing urban schools. Costs were to be kept low meaning they would NOT offer many of the extras that traditional public schools offered. I look around at the charter schools in SC and many of them cater to suburban demographics and have become mirror images of traditional public high schools.

I also do not agree with allowing charter school students to have their cake and eat it too. Meaning if you're going to attend a charter school that doesn't have sports or certain sports then you need to sleep in the bed you've made. No attending the charter school and playing ball for the local traditional school. This however shows just how much political clout suburban charter school parents have in this state.

RacinCowboy - must be a tough decision. As much tradition as Gaffney has man it would be tough to move away. Kids grow up seeing the varsity players as heroes. Role models, etc. So, I wish you the best of luck with whatever decision you all go with!

It's insane and nobody "who isn't vested somehow to gain something would argue the point". Staying at a place where there are fairly clear indications you won't get a fair shake or there is a reason to believe you won't reach your full potential due to faulty talent evaluation. Especially when there is proof to that end; makes no sense to keep banging into the same brick stubborn wall if you can avoid it.

There will always be a place for "grit and determination"! But, the way the world is evolving and changing has to be taken into consideration at some point. Teaching a kid how to operate and fix a "dot matrix" printer, LOL! That is what some people are doing and failing these kids b/c they teaching them "what they know" which is a mindset and approach that will hurt them in the job market. You have to be flexible and willing to try different things is all I am saying. To make yourself more marketable to get that job. Or land that account.
Best of luck to all the people who will have to "SIT" due to politics making them sit! Maybe the lesson you learn from knowing politics had you sitting instead of ability will motivate you to go on and become a policy changer in the future!   Bootster clubs and people putting their friends friend in a starting/prominent role exist and needs to be addressed or people can get out of their feelings about this topic. You should not have one w/o the other b/c it gives one side the ability to just **** a kid because of politics!
