Re: Clover Football
The Clover-York Football rivalry game is one of the oldest, if not the oldest high school gridiron rivalry in South Carolina. Clover ventured into organized football 11 years after York in the fall of 1923. York began playing football in 1912, the year the Titanic went down in the Atlantic. It's a special rivalry between two communities that are only eight miles apart. Most of the players and fans know each other and there are some marriages that split York-Clover loyalties. The York-Clover games draw the biggest crowd of the year, whether it's football, basketball, baseball or whatever the sport. York changed from the Green Dragons to the Cougars between 83 & 84.
